Morning Sessions: Strategic Planning and Succession Planning-Strategies for Success

These workshops are perfect for leaders seeking a wealth of tips, tools, and templates to convert strategic and succession planning conversations and content into a live written plan.

  • 9:00 AM Session One: Strategic Planning

Did you know that a well-crafted strategic plan is statistically proven to DOUBLE an organization’s chance of long-term success? This workshop is designed for leaders seeking clarity around strategic planning PROCESS and the final written PRODUCT.

Funding for Good’s experts outline processes that engage teams of all shapes and sizes to produce a plan that is visionary yet realistic and actionable.. We share the top 10 questions every organization should ask before drafting a plan. Then we outline the three questions every written plan should answer.

Participants will gain insider tips on questions like “How do we level the playing field, so both introverts and extroverts have equal opportunity to contribute in conversations?” and “How do we narrow down a plethora of ideas into one concise document?”

Finally, we highlight the essential components of a written strategic plan and share strategies to ensure that your end product is clear, concise, and compelling. We will explain how to organize the content in a way that educates and inspires readers.

  • 11:00 AM Session Two: Succession Planning

If the most active member of your team were to walk away tomorrow, would your organization come to a screeching halt or begin a chaotic scramble to figure out the next steps? Are you prepared to guide your organization through both expected and unexpected transitions of team members?

If the thought of losing and replacing essential team members makes you nervous, this session is for you. You will learn tools and strategies to ensure that your mission can move forward productively, even during transitions.

Afternoon Session: Building an Active and Engaged Board

  • 1:00PM Session One: 4 Cornerstones of Board Governance

Wouldn’t it be great if each of your board members knew what they need to do and why? Board member job descriptions may vary from organization to organization, but core legal and ethical responsibilities do not.

You will learn what EVERY nonprofit board member needs to understand before they say “YES” to serving on a board. We will tackle frequently asked questions such as: What is fair for us to expect from our board? What does the government expect from our board? What happens if we fail to hold board members accountable?

  • 3:00 PM Session Two: Onboarding Strategies--How to Build an Active Board

Do 10% of your board members do 90% of the work?

Is your board filled with “passionate” individuals who “are just not that effective?”

Are you ready to fill empty board seats but want to make sure your new members have the tools they need to lead?

If you answered, YES, to any of those questions, this session is for you.

We get it! Developing a knowledgeable and effective board should be the top priority of every organization. This session will provide you with a framework for onboarding new leaders.

We will explain why consistent onboarding processes are important, deconstruct the key components, and simplify the planning process for you. Participants will walk away with tips, tools, and templates so you can begin customizing an onboarding process for your organization today.
