Hurricane Helene Tax Considerations for Farm Business Owners (Online)
Nick Brown, NC State, will provide information regarding tax considerations for western NC agriculture producers in the rebuilding process and will review the following:
• Tax concerns for small-scale agricultural operations concerning the taxability of insurance proceeds
• FEMA disaster relief money, crop insurance proceeds
• NAP crop insurance proceeds, and other disaster relief assistance
• Timing of disaster relief payments
• Cover broader topics like the extension of IRS deadlines and other tax tools to help offset significant damages
Speaker(s): Professor Nick Brown, NC State Prof. Brown is an assistant extension professor in the CALS Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics (ARE), specializing in matters regarding taxation and law. Prof. Brown started in August 2024 and has been utilizing his background as an attorney to create extension-related content for farmers and agribusiness owners. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Prof. Brown has spent months researching and developing tax content specific for storm relief efforts.
