Cyber Security for Your Small Business
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is a major concern in cybersecurity for small businesses. It’s a fancy way to say you are protecting your sensitive data and trying to avoid having a data breach. As we know, data our customers have entrusted to us in the course of doing business must be protected. When a breach occurs, and customer data is exposed, the business is usually in the news the next day and long-time customers lose their faith in the business. Statistics show that 60 percent of businesses suffering a data breach are out of business in six months. This course will focus on small businesses in the Eastern North Carolina market that are involved in one or more of the following business activities. •Financial Services •Health Care •Sell products or services to retail or commercial customers •Maintain an internet business presence through a website or on Social Media •Accept payments using credit cards or debit cards Mr. Parsons will review the impacts that a data breach can have on small businesses and their responsibilities if a breach occurs. He will also describe some of the major threats facing these organizations over the past 6 to 12 months and how these threats if carries out in the form of an attack will potentially impact the business. Finally, the instructor will describe some of the key compliance requirements that small businesses face when providing these services. He will also conclude his discussion by proposing a model that can be easily followed and implemented by a small business without a large capital expense. This model relies on cloud services and end point data protection that work together in a cost-effective manner. The products offering these services are readily available today in the marketplace.
