Topic: Managing a Business

In the United States, baby boomers own almost half of all privately held businesses. In Wilson, that ownership percentage is 62% for those over the age of 55. Both large and small business owners who do not have a ready buyer or children ready to take the helm are at risk of closing down. Planning an exit via employee ownership can provide an owner with excellent tax benefits while preserving their legacy, local jobs, and community impacts.

The NC Employee Ownership Center (NCEOC) provides education around Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), worker cooperatives, and Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs) as strong exit options that also preserve jobs and community impacts. Dedicated to increasing community wealth and creating a more vibrant and inclusive economy, the NCEOC has a focus on preserving all businesses through employee ownership.
