This training is an introduction to doing business with the federal government. Topics trained include: Levels of federal purchasing (how the federal government buys products, construction and engineering and non-personal services); marketing a business to the federal government; socio-economic small business programs (23% of all federal contracting is targeted at small businesses); registering as a federal contractor; locating, identifying and responding to federal business opportunities; resources available to assist federal contractors in North Carolina; technology transition resources to assist small businesses in introducing technologies to the Department of Defense; and examples of federal opportunities with emphasis on medical, biomedical and biodefense contracting. The primary instructor for the lunch-time training session will be Dennis “Denny” Lewis, Federal Business Development for Raleigh/Durham Area, North Carolina Military Business Center and Director, North Carolina Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH), who joined the North Carolina Military Business Center in January 2015 after a career in the US Army and 14 years of experience in the Federal Business Sector. Denny is responsible for working with NC businesses to develop and execute strategies to win new business and grow existing programs with the Federal Sector, particularly within the DoD. Additional instruction will be provided by Scott Dorney, Executive Director of the North Carolina Military Business Center.
