COVID-19 - Virtual Town Hall Meeting April 1, 2020 4:00 - 6:00pm Virtual Town Hall Online Meeting This free webinar will feature a panel with experts on key areas of business support related to the coronavirus pandemic, including public health, The U.S. Small Business Administration, legal, employment, and accounting. The Transylvania Business Support Task Force was recently formed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and consists of Transylvania Economic Alliance (TEA), Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce (Chamber), Heart of Brevard (HOB), Blue Ridge Community College Small Business Center (BRCC SBC), and Transylvania County Tourism (TCT). One of the first steps of the task force was to compile information to create a shared business resource guide to get the best information on dealing with this crisis to the business community. Key areas were loan and disaster financing, unemployment information, operational guidance, governmental updates, upcoming webinars, and more. This information continues to be updated at brevardncchamber.org, brevardnc.org, blueridge.edu/sbc and transylvaniaalliance.com. Topics/Speakers Include: 1) COVID community health update - Elaine Russell, Transylvania Co Public Health 2) SBA economic injury loans overview - Sharon Harvey, U.S. Small Business Administration 3) Preparing your finances for disaster loans - Michelle Tracz, Michelle Tracz CPA 4) Employee layoffs & unemployment - Jason Chappell, NC Works 5) Legislative updates & legal - Stephen Williamson, Van Winkle Law Firm 6) Task Force update and resources Q/A for panelists Elaine Russell has served as the Transylvania County Health Director since January 2015. She is a native of western North Carolina and served as the Cherokee County Health Director for many years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts In Biology from UNC-Asheville and a Masters of Public Health from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. Sharon K. Harvey is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds a bachelor's degree in Radio and Television, consisting of more than 40 credit hours in journalism from Butler University. She joined the SBA Indiana District Office in 2008 as the public information officer, and assumed the role of economic development specialist in 2014. Prior to the SBA, Sharon spent 19 years in the private sector working in television and radio as a sales director and media buyer. Sharon joined NC SBA in 2019 as the Senior Area Manager for Western North Carolina. Michelle started Michelle Tracz, CPA, CFE, PLLC in 2012 as an accounting and consulting practice. The firm specializes in assisting small to mid-sized businesses, for-profit and not-for-profit, to help them meet their accounting and financial reporting needs, as well as fill gaps in staffing. Michelle and her team assist business owners, CFO’s, Executive Directors, Controllers, and Board Members by providing Contract Controller, Accounting/Bookkeeping, and Consulting services including assistance with sourcing, set-up, and implementation of accounting systems, internal controls review and assessment, strategic organizational development, and HR processes and documentation. Jason Chappell serves as the director of Transylvania and Henderson Co Chamber of Commerce. Jason also currently serves as a County Commissioner for Transylvania County. Stephen Williamson is a principal with The Van Winkle Law Firm, where he focuses his practice on employment or “workplace” law and other litigation. Mr. Williamson has more than 25 years of experience. He has been with Van Winkle for more than 20 years but also spent several years as a partner at two international law firms: the Richmond, Virginia based McGuireWoods LLP; and Chicago, Illinois and New York City based Katten, Muchin Rosenman LLP.
