Leading with Influence: Communication Strategies that Build Trust and Opportunity
Influence grows when we communicate like coaches—curious, relational, and value-adding. Small business owners often rely on relationships to generate referrals, partnerships, repeat customers, and local credibility. This session shows them how. We draw on behavioral principles from Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion and reputation-building strategies from Power and Influence, combining these with coach-style communication skills such as presence, inquiry, reflective listening, and trust deposits. Participants will leave with actionable tools they can use immediately in client interactions, partnership conversations, networking, and follow-up. Small business owners will be able to: 1. Understand why influence (not pressure) drives trust, referrals, and opportunity. 2. Apply six proven influence principles to build trust with clients and partners. 3. Strengthen credibility at three stages: first impression, during interactions, and after delivery. 4. Use a coach-approach (listening + inquiry) to uncover needs and build alignment. 5. Build relationship currency and reputation capital that support repeat business and partnerships.
