In this one-hour workshop, we’ll take a big-picture look at what makes a farm business. viable. From reaching the right customers and standing out in the market to building efficient operations and planning for the future, you’ll walk away with simple tools to evaluate the overall strength of your farm and identify areas for growth. Session 2 - 10:30-11:30 "Your Farm Story Sells" Your farm is more than crops and livestock—it’s a story. Learn how to identify and share your unique story to connect with customers, set yourself apart in the marketplace, and build lasting loyalty. Session 3 - 11:30-12:00 "AI in a Flash: Smart Business Tools for Farmers" In just 30 minutes, discover how artificial intelligence can simplify everyday business tasks on the farm. From managing records and bookkeeping to marketing, customer communication, and saving time on paperwork—this lightning-speed workshop will show you practical ways to put AI to work for your business operations. (Lunch and Networking) 12-12:45 Session 4 - 12:45-1:30 "NCDA Food & Drug Rules & Regulations 1.0- Home Processing, Low-Risk and Value-Added Food Manufacturing" In this session, you will learn more about the NC Department of Agriculture and their role in your food-based business. Low-risk foods will be defined and specific regulations and guidelines outlined for you. In addition, the federal and state requirements and laws over home processing and low-risk foods will be thoroughly explained, as will the inspection process. Examples will be provided and opportunities for questions and answers. Session 5 - 1:30-2:15 "NCDA Food & Drug Rules & Regulations 2.0- High Risk Food and Value-Added Food Manufacturing" This session will be focused on “high-risk foods” by definition, as well as “pathogens of concern.” High Risk food rules and regulations are designed and enforced by the NC Department of Agriculture to promote health and safety. These are extremely important and must be strictly followed in order to preserve public health as well as your company’s reputation and bottom line. Learn more about specific policies and rules, additional training and regulation requirements, and the inspection process. Examples will be provided, as well as time for discussion around specific questions and common problem areas. Session 6 - 2:15-3:00 "Growing Smarter: Horticulture and Forestry Insights for Agriculture Businesses" Join Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Agent Owen Washam for an engaging session exploring practical strategies in horticulture and forestry that support profitable and sustainable agriculture businesses. From crop diversification to agroforestry opportunities, attendees will gain research-based insights and tools they can put to work on their farms and operations.-
