Tue 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM

This is in conjunction with our celebration of National Small Business Week. The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and their Consultant, Simon Resources, Inc. will present an update on the highly visible Business 40 Improvement project in Winston-Salem. The project is currently in the final design phase, with construction beginning later this year (Fall 2017). The project will also require the closure of Business 40 through downtown Winston Salem, beginning in Fall 2018. Overall, the project will improve a 1.2-mile section of Business 40 from east of Church Street to west of Fourth Street. Improvements will include the following: • Remove the existing pavement and replace it with new pavement; • Modernize the entrance and exit ramps; • Replace 9 vehicular bridges and construct two pedestrian bridges; • Build portion of the new Multi-Use Path, and; • Increase speed limit (from 45 mph) to 55 mph. The “new and improved” Business 40 will meet current traffic demands and modern design specifications. The project will create a safer, longer lasting roadway that will help drivers get where they need to go more efficiently, as well as improve local and regional connectivity, reduce congestion and enhance safety.
