Mission Monday: Non-profit - Formation & Operation (Board Management & Compliance)

Description: This course focuses on the first steps in starting a nonprofit, including filing the necessary paperwork with the State of North Carolina (Articles of Incorporation) and the Internal Revenue Service (501c3- form 1023). We will review the legal structure and consideration of a small business that aligns with the mission and vision of the organization. In this session, we will also discuss the importance of board governance and compliance. This course also offers an introduction to establishing a productive and diverse board, the board’s role and responsibilities, the board and executive director’s relationship, and financial responsibilities of the board. Additionally, participants will be able to identify their own governance needs and improve the structure and practices of an existing board.
