The Small Business Center at Isothermal Community College is a community-based provider of education and training, counseling, information, and referral for persons who are currently in business or those seeking to start a new business in Rutherford and/or Polk County. Available on an as-needed basis, our counselors are here to listen, brainstorm, counsel, and provide resources all free of charge. Small business taxation will be discussed in depth in this course. The taxes incurred by all forms of businesses will be compared. The benefits and drawbacks of a sole proprietor, partnership and corporations will be explained. The filing for a Limited Liability Company will be covered and how that affects filing of business taxes. Payroll issues, including a discussion as to employee or contract labor payment requirements will be clarified. Health insurance and retirement benefits from each type of company will also be included. Start up issues such as federal EIN number acquisition, sales tax, and employment tax registration will be a focal point. Following this class attendees will be clear on most common tax requirements and issues for small businesses.
