The Small Business Center at Edgecombe Community College offers low and no-cost seminars, workshops and individual confidential counseling designed to assist prospective small business owners develop their ideas into realities, and to expand the knowledge of all business owners that will lead to growth, prosperity and the creation of new jobs.

The SBC will offer three separate programs for Fall.  The first, the Small Business Development Series, is designed primarily for those individuals who either have a new business idea or are just beginning to think about starting their own business, and are looking for ideas and guidance. 

The second, the Entrepreneur's
Leadership Development Series Certificate Program, is designed for prospective and existing business owners who want to develop and/or fine-tune their leadership and managerial skills. 
Superior leadership can turn an organization’s future from a “maybe” to a “sure thing”; and these skills will boost anyone’s career and earnings potential. 

The third program, the
REAL Entrepreneur Academy Certificate Program, is for those individuals who are really serious about starting a new business, and are willing to make a commitment
to make it happen.  There will also be two special-interest REAL programs offered for Fall.  The first is designed for healthcare professionals, and the second for anyone interested in starting an agriculture-related business.

A special program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, is also administered through the ECC Small Business Center.  GATE, or “Growing America Through Entrepreneurship” is a scholarship program that provides training and coaching to help laid-off, or dislocated, workers interested in starting a business.  Information regarding this unique program is available at www.ncprojectgate.org, or by contacting Shari Dickens, program coordinator, at 252-823-5166, extension 166.

Additional programs will be offered in conjunction with the Tarboro-Edgecombe and Rocky Mount Chambers of Commerce. 

A Small Business Resource Center is available in the Tarboro campus library. The resource center includes periodicals, books, tapes, and other valuable information for the small business person. In addition, business planning software and access to personal computer systems with Internet connection is available for clients who wish to conduct research or develop a business plan on their own.
