Success Story - Snack Time Sweets

At the Small Business Center at Cape Fear Community College, we’re dedicated to helping local entrepreneurs turn their dreams into thriving businesses. One inspiring success story is that of Sara Baker, founder and cake designer of Snack Time Sweets in Wilmington. After years of honing her craft, from working in grocery store bakeries to earning her pastry arts degree and building experience in wedding cake design, Sara and her husband relocated to Wilmington in 2020 with the goal of launching her own dessert business. When she first started looking for support, she reached out to our center to explore free resources that could guide her through planning and launch, connecting with our director, Jerry Coleman, for one-on-one counseling to navigate early decisions and avoid common pitfalls.

As Snack Time Sweets has evolved, Sara continued to lean on the Small Business Center for practical help, from confirming best practices as she moved into a dedicated kitchen space in the Cargo District to finding a bookkeeper and getting organized. We’ve seen how that kind of ongoing support can make a difference, not only allowing her to stay true to her artistic vision and grow through word-of-mouth referrals and strong local networking, but also helping her plan responsibly for future growth.
