Brandi Randolph, Owner - Meowter Banks Cat Café

In June 2024, Coast Guard veteran and SPCA employee Brandi Randolph reached out to the College of The Albemarle’s Small Business Center with the vision of opening a cat café in the Outer Banks. With the guidance of SBC Director Holly Staples and support from ECSU’s SBTDC, Brandi turned her idea into a reality through a year of careful planning, financial projections, and mentorship. Together, they worked through startup costs, funding options, lease negotiations, and marketing strategies, while also connecting her with mentors and community partners.

Despite challenges with permits, contractors, and unexpected expenses, Brandi’s persistence and the SBC’s ongoing support helped her stay on track. By spring 2025, she had secured a location in Kitty Hawk, finalized operations, and prepared for launch.

On June 17, 2025, Brandi proudly opened Meowter Banks Cat Café, a unique community hub where customers can enjoy coffee, baked goods, and adoptable cats in a welcoming environment. The grand opening drew a large crowd and immediate success. Brandi’s story is a testament to how vision, determination, and small business resources can transform a dream into a thriving reality.

The Small Business Center was a key part of turning my dream into a reality. With guidance from Holly Staples, I went from an idea in fall 2024 to opening our family-friendly cat café in June 2025. Their support helped me stay organized, access vital resources, and build a space that brings joy to our community where guests connect, cats find homes, and everyone feels welcome.
