Topic: Marketing and Sales

Finances Welcome to Session #1 of our Marketing Series: Branding Comes First! Before taking your business to the public, it’s important to have the fundamentals of the brand in place. Often, your brand is the very first impression a customer has of your business, and a strategic, well-designed brand can be a compelling point of difference between you and a competitor.

The number of brand identity components needed varies depending on your business and communications needs, but generally includes:

  • An available, marketable name (Hint: just because it’s available legally, doesn’t mean it’s available from a marketing perspective.)
  • Logo
  • Color Palette
  • Fonts
  • Messaging Document (we’ll dig deeper into this in session 5)

In this session, you’ll hear from a small business owner who invested quality time developing their brand and lessons learned along the way. We’ll talk through how to qualify a designer to do this work for your business, and the right components to include in a scope of work with a graphic designer for brand identity work.

You’ll walk away with a general understanding of the brand needs for your business, an idea of the cost you should expect to incur to develop that brand identity, and how to use the brand identity to build the foundational marketing components of your business.

Upcoming sessions in this series include:

  • May 6 - #2: Target Market Identification and Brand Personas
  • May 20 - #3: Setting SMART Marketing Goals
  • May 27 - #4: Choosing Digital Platforms and Creating a Content Calendar
  • June 10 - #5: The Power of Brand Messaging, June 24
  • June 24 - #6: Key Marketing Activities for Q4
