“The Business Side of Operating a Faith-Based Organization” (FREE) Businesses operating in the United States are expected to operate within certain guidelines and are to follow certain rules established by both the Federal Government and the Internal Revenue Service. While faith based congregations are not held accountable to all of these rules, they are responsible for maintaining many of them. Faith based congregations also enjoy the privilege tax-exempt status; however, if they fail to comply with the guidelines set by the Federal Government, this status can be removed.
