Topic: Managing a Business

Just like the difference between a house and a home, what transforms a building full of guns, tools and equipment into a safe, comfortable and effective workspace goes beyond the mere physical aspect. Gunsmithing shops come in all shapes and sizes and no single layout is perfect for everyone. If there were, it would be simple to follow a precise plan with clear dimensions and instructions. Every gunsmith who comes into the hobby or profession has a particular collection of “stuff”, his own peculiar work style, skills, and desires for the kind of work he wants to do that gives him a unique approach as to how he will lay out a shop. Unless you’re a big fan of frequent shop remodeling, planning the layout of your shop early in its development will save you a lot of time and trouble and can also keep you from finding yourself in hazardous situations, or simply spending years in an uncomfortable, poorly organized space. This session will show you that it’s not about having a ton of space but about strategically mapping out whatever space you do have so that you can be the most effective and efficient.
