Choosing the Best Legal Entity for Your Business and Protecting Your IP

This class will provide an overview of the various legal entity formations available to businesses, including limited liability companies, "S" corporation, "C" corporation, partnership, and sole proprietorship, and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each. Also included will be information on how to form each type of entity, and the tax consequences associated with each. We will then go on to cover the basics of intellectual property law to ensure that each business adequately protects these important, but often overlooked assets. Topics will include the basics of trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets, and how to identify and protect each.
