This course focuses on the first steps in starting a nonprofit, including filing the necessary paperwork with the State of North Carolina (Articles of Incorporation) and the Internal Revenue Service (501c3- form 1023). We will discuss the importance of opening up a bank account and what type of bank accounts to open to avoid high bank fees. In this session we will also review the legal structure and consideration of a small business that aligns with the mission and vision of the organization.

Speaker(s): Dr. Katrina Sweet Dr. Sweet is a native of North Carolina and a product of Edgecombe County Public School System. She has a PhD in Organizational Management from Capella University, a MPA in Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management, and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Wesleyan College. Recently, Dr. Sweet attended Duke University and earned a certificate in Nonprofit Management.
